The relationship between Cyanogen and OnePlus is strained, that much is evident, but this doesn’t mean that phones which were shipped with CyanogenMod ROMs will stop receiving updates. The software maker confirmed today through Twitter that the OnePlus One Lollipop CyanogenMod 12S build has entered testing. A step up from the 11S build, the new software is based on Android 5.0 Lollipop.
Cyanogen confirmed today that the build is now in final quality assurance testing phase. It will work with third-parties in order to meet standards that are required to retain Google Play Services. It is based on Android 5.0.2 and will be released over-the-air to OnePlus One units when the time comes.
The time is what we don’t know at this stage. Cyanogen doesn’t say when it will release the OnePlus One Lollipop build. Given that it is in the final stages of testing it shouldn’t take a lot of time for the process to be completed and the update to be released.
This could very well be one of the last major updates that Cyanogen puts together for a OnePlus device. The company recently announced that it is going to unveil its own software called Oxygen OS later this month.
The possibility exists that Cyanogen may be dropped as the OS partner for OnePlus phones. New OnePlus One units have already been spotted without the Cyanogen logo.
