When the Ashton Kutcher starring biopic on the life of Steve Jobs flopped many turned their attention towards a similar project that was still in the pipeline. Sony Pictures had the rights to make a movie based on Steve Jobs’ official biography penned by Walter Isaacson. David Fincher was initially attached to the project to direct, with bankable actors like Christian Bale and Leonardo DiCaprio being considered for the lead role. Aaron Sorkin wrote the screenplay. After much speculation about the future of this project a release date for the new Steve Jobs movie has finally been set.

Sony Pictures decided to pass on the film when negotiations failed with the aforementioned actors. Universal stepped in and picked up the project. It quickly confirmed the cast, with Michael Fassbender playing Jobs and Seth Rogen stepping in as Steve Wozniak, and started filming. Only recently we got our first look at the actors portraying the two Apple co-founders.

For what we know about the movie up till now it will basically cover three major product launches in Apple’s history, including the keynote where Steve Jobs unveiled the first iPod, and will also shed light on Steve Jobs’ personal life.

Directed by Danny Boyle, known for films like 128 Hours and Slumdog Millionaire, the new Steve Jobs movie has been set for release on October 9th, 2015, reports Deadline. This release date will bring the movie in time for awards season consideration.
