Microsoft Reiterates Commitment To Windows RT

You might have read several posts online claiming that Windows RT is now dead given that the Nokia Lumia 2520 tablet is no longer being produced. Surface 2 met the same fate and there are no ARM devices with displays over 8-inches that will receive a full-fledged Windows 10 upgrade. Microsoft itself hasn’t said that Windows RT will bite the dust. The company has reiterated its commitment to Windows RT and will share more about its future later.

On January 21st Microsoft’s Terry Myerson said at the company’s Windows 10 event that the team is working on an update for Windows RT and more will be revealed about this update over the next few months.

A spokesperson for Microsoft has said that ARM devices will continue to be a “crucial part” of the devices supported by Windows 10, with experience optimized for ARM-based phones, phablets and small tablets that have displays up to 8-inches.

It remains to be seen whether a new device will be released in the coming months that will run Windows RT out of the box. Many believe that this isn’t likely to happen even if Microsoft won’t stop supporting the software immediately.

A few days back an ARM tablet was spotted in the benchmarks but not much is known about it at this point in time. Microsoft hasn’t talked about any new tablets for a while now so we’ll wait and see when this one comes to the market.
