The Lumia 2520 was the first tablet from Nokia that ran the Windows RT platform, and it seems that it is the last. Microsoft confirmed this to The Verge in a statement which reads, “We are no longer manufacturing Nokia Lumia 2520; however, those still eager to buy Nokia Lumia 2520 should visit Microsoft Retail Stores,MicrosoftStore.com, third-party retailers and resellers for the latest availability.”
As it stands, the Lumia 2520 was also the last Window RT device made under the Microsoft banner (after they had acquired Nokia), which basically means that Microsoft could have very well killed off the Windows RT platform. Other OEMs who have produced Windows RT tablets have now turned their attention to the Windows 8/8.1 instead as well.
In some ways this doesn’t come as a surprise considering how fragmented it made things. Microsoft had Windows Phone for mobile devices, then they had Windows RT for tablets and hybrids, and they also had Windows 8/8.1 which were also designed for tablets, hybrids, and laptops. However hopefully with Windows 10, Microsoft will be able to unify some of their software, but for now we guess Windows RT could have bitten the dust.
