LG and Microsoft had a good relationship a few years ago. The Korean company was a launch partner for Microsoft’s mobile platform but it has been quite a while since LG developed a Windows Phone smartphone. It looks like the company is working on a new WP device that could be one of the first few smartphones to be released this year that will come with Windows 10 straight out of the box. If recent reports are correct then this LG smartphone might be exclusive to the largest carrier in the country.
The MyLGPhones team has spotted a product number, LGVW820, which appears to run on Microsoft’s mobile platform. The device has been spotted in a leaked document which suggests that it will be a Verizon exclusive.
This is actually not the first time this device has been spotted.
In December last year this device was spotted in log data and the information obtained then, that it had a 4.7-inch display with 480×854, clearly pointed towards the fact that it was a low-end device.
Last year LG said that it was working with Microsoft on Threshold, now known as Windows 10, but clarified that it didn’t mean a smartphone would be released in 2014.
We’re now in 2015 and it looks highly likely that this year LG will end its long streak of not releasing a Windows powered smartphone.
Even if its initially just a low-end device LG’s return as a Microsoft OEM will certainly be appreciated by the community.
