Samsung has been making waves in the virtual reality arena. The company teamed up with Oculus to develop the Gear VR, its own virtual reality headset, that works in tandem with a Galaxy Note 4. The headset has now made its way to Best Buy locations across the country so Samsung is pretty far ahead of its rivals on this front. Its Korean rival LG hasn’t been too loud about its VR plans but that doesn’t mean it was sitting still. LG today revealed a virtual reality headset for its existing flagship smartphone, it is called VR for G3.
LG joined hands with Google for this virtual reality headset. Fashioned from plastic the VR for G3 is similar in function to Samsung’s Gear VR. Users must slide their LG G3 in the headset to take advantage of it.
Special holes are cut in the headset to accommodate the G3’s volume keys, which many might recall sit at the back of the device.
The design for this headset came from Google’s VR headset, the one it made from cardboard, called Google Cardboard. LG used plastic for its headset though.
It has a neodymium ring magnet on the side that pairs with the G3’s gyroscope which will allow the user to control their phone without having to touch the display.
LG hasn’t revealed right now how much VR for G3 costs and where customers will be able to purchase one. It says that this VR headset will only be launched in “selected markets.”
