Mac users have a new iTunes update to play with. Apple has released an incremental update for its desktop software which brings a new feature apart from the usual tweaks and improvements that one expects from incremental updates. iTunes 12.1 is the latest version of Apple’s desktop software, OS X users should have already received a notification about this update, which can be installed from the Mac App Store’s update section.
iTunes 12.1 for OS X brings support for Notification Center, a widget to be precise, which would allow users to control their music from the system-wide panel.
On OS X the Notification Center sweeps in from the right hand side of the display. Widget support is nothing new and many apps are already capable of displaying their widgets inside Notification Center. Apple has finally taken advantage of this feature for its own desktop software.
Using the iTunes Notification Center widget users can not only control their music playback but they can also purchase songs from iTunes Radio from within the widget itself.
A “quick tour” feature has been added to iTunes 12.1 which comes up after the app’s second launch. Its the same quick tour that Apple had up on its website last year and now it has been incorporated right inside iTunes to give users an overview of the new design and features.
