Instagram’s video feature arrived a lot later than Twitter’s Vine but it soon became popular with a part of its user base. Vine only allows users to upload six second videos which would loop endlessly. Instagram videos didn’t loop initially but users were allowed to upload 15-second clips. Today Instagram has taken a page from Vine’s book and enabled vidoes on its service to loop endlessly.
Even though Instagram has a massive user base it is still widely regarded as a photo sharing service. To encourage users to post more videos Instagram recently released a hyperlapse app which received a lot of praise.
Now it has turned its attention towards the video feature on the main app. All Instagram videos will now loop automatically so users will be able to watch a clip again and again without having to tap the screen.
There’s another reason why Instagram is doing this. Advertisers would want people to see their ads as many times as possible and looping videos increases the exposure that their campaigns get. Loops also provide them with a metric to measure just how effective a campaign was.
Instagram users should start noticing the change from today. Its nothing monumental but it just might help breathe new life in Instagram’s video feature.
