We reported yesterday that Google’s Sundar Pichai has confirmed that the Inbox by Gmail app will soon be opened up to Google Apps accounts. It wasn’t confirmed if invites would be required for these users as well and today we get to know that the invite system is sticking around. Google has launched an Inbox invite program which would allow Google Apps for business or work users to gain access to the Inbox app.
The Inbox by Gmail app was launched late last year and since then access has been controlled through an invite system. Initially the app was only compatible with Gmail accounts but that changes today.
Through the new invite program Google Apps for Work admins can request Google to provide them with access to the app. Google will gradually open up the app to these accounts. Admins will have send an email to inboxforwork@google.com just to request access.
Once admins receive an invite and they enable access for their organizations, all of the users in that organization will be able to use Inbox by Gmail.
Individual members of the organization can’t request access from Google, only admins are allowed to do that. Google is going to start sending out the first wave of invites to these users starting next month.
