Google’s AdSense comes with a mute feature. Basically this feature allows users to turn off ads displayed on a website or service like YouTube, and while it doesn’t necessarily mean you won’t get ads anymore, it means that you are not interested in that particular ad. It also helps Google and advertisers know what works for you and what doesn’t.
However it seems that Google is now stepping up their game and has recently announced that the mute feature will now come with a short survey. Now whenever users click the “mute this ad” function, it will display a small survey that users will have to fill out if they want the ad to disappear. The space surrounding the ad will then collapse neatly and allow the content from the site to fill the space.
This is basically the expansion of a current feature as well as provide more specific feedback. For example previously a mute would just mean that the user is not interested in the ad, but now with the small multiple choice survey, advertisers will have a slightly better idea as to why you have chosen to mute that particular ad.
Of course you could always turn to extensions like AdBlock, but given that companies such as Microsoft and Google have paid to have their ads whitelisted, we guess this is a feature you should probably start getting used to.
