This particular service happens to be run by non-profit organization Internet.org, but of course it is not alone. It will be on the receiving end of input from a range of telecom industry partners, and have been available in a handful of countries over on the continent of Africa as well as in Colombia, prior to making its way to the second most populous country in the world.
Of course, this app has yet to be made available to the entire Indian population yet, although this baby step has seen Facebook work alongside operator Reliance so that free access to Internet.org sites across half a dozen states at first will be available, and these six states happen to be Tamil Nadu, Mahararashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Kerala, and Telangana.
