Some Android users aren’t particularly happy with Facebook’s app for the platform since the social network sticks with its own vision for decision and doesn’t change it too often. With Android 5.0 Lollipop Google introduced something it called Material Design, and developers quickly started updating their applications to get on a similar wavelength as far as design goes. Now it looks like Facebook too is incorporating some Material Design elements in its Android app.
It appears that Facebook is testing out a new update for its Android app that is inspired by Material Design. Since its a test only a few Android users have received said update but it does feature some similarity with the design language that Google introduced with Android 5.0 Lollipop.
To be precise this new update has a floating action button which is a staple in all Material Design apps that are native to Lollipop.
The screenshots that have appeared online so far don’t show a complete overhaul of the design, the tinted status bar on Lollipop is missing, but who knows it might appear in a later version.
The floating action button in this particular update removes the new post bar that is present in the current version of Facebook’s Android app. Tapping on the floating action button brings up options to post updates, photos and check-in to a place.
Since Facebook tends to experiment with user interface changes it can not be said for sure if and when this update will be rolled out for updates, or if the company is going to go for a complete overhaul of the design of its Android app.
