These turbines are designed by renewable energy specialist Urban Green Energy and the goal is to generate enough electricity to power the tower’s first floor. Now some of you might be wondering won’t this be an eyesore and distract from the tower’s original design? Thankfully Urban Green Energy has thought of that and has painted it to blend in with the tower.
The turbines are installed on the second floor of the tower and have the ability to capture wind from any direction and will be able to produce as much as 10,000kWh per year. This is also part of Société d’Exploitation de la Tour Eiffel’s plan to reduce the environmental impact of the tower by 25%, so the installation of the turbines should go towards their goal.
According to Urban Green Energy’s CEO Nick Blitterswyk, “The Eiffel Tower is arguably the most renowned architectural icon in the world, and we are proud that our advanced technology was chosen as the Tower commits to a more sustainable future. When visitors from around the world see the wind turbines, we get one step closer to a world powered by clean and reliable renewable energy.”
