It has been rumored that Canon could be close to launching a new camera that is part of their 5D lineup in the form of the Canon EOS 5Ds. It was about a week ago that we were treated to alleged leaked image of the camera, and now we’re sure some of you are wondering just how much will this bad boy cost?
Given that the camera is part of Canon’s 5D range, it will not come cheap, and sure enough it won’t, according to prices received by the folks at Photo Rumors. According to their sources, they have received the prices for the Canon EOS 5Ds and the 5Ds R (no low-pass filter). However the prices are in Euro so the US prices could be different.
For the EOS 5Ds, they have heard it will cost 3,499 Euro or $4,000. As for the 5Ds R, it will be priced slightly higher at 3,699 Euro or $4,200. Like we said the US prices are a direct conversion so it is possible that it could be priced cheaper when it arrives stateside. It is also unclear if these are body-only or if it comes with a kit lens, but chances are the prices are for the former.
In terms of specs, the 5Ds is rumored to feature a 50.6MP sensor which is actually pretty impressive. It will feature a magnesium alloy build and will be sealed against both dust and water, a DIGIC6 processor, and a 61-point AF system. Take it with a grain of salt for now, but hopefully we won’t have to wait much longer for an official announcement.
