Blizzard’s Warcraft and StarCraft franchises are from two completely separate and different universes, and while we’re sure many Warcraft fans are eagerly waiting to see if Blizzard will ever announce a Warcraft 4, in the meantime fans will be able to relive the game through StarCraft 2.
Blizzard has recently announced that they will be making the models and assets from Warcraft 3 available in the StarCraft 2 PTR. What this means is that if you’ve always wanted to make a Warcraft 4 imagining of your own, you can now use the actual models and assets from Warcraft 3 to do so. Granted it might not look as pretty as how Blizzard would have done it, but it should make for an interesting experience nonetheless.
Also given that this release is aimed at the Arcade community, which basically comprises of StarCraft 2 mods, it will be interesting to see the different types of mods and games that developers will be able to cook up using these Warcraft 3 assets. Blizzard has also asked creators to send in their creations so that they might feature them.
At the moment the models and assets are only available on the PTR and in order to access the StarCraft 2 PTR, select that option from the Region/Account dropdown menu and you should be good to go.
