BlackBerry Hits Typo With Another Lawsuit Over Typo 2 Accessory

A couple of years ago, Typo unveiled an iPhone keyboard accessory that was not met well by BlackBerry who sued them over the design of the keyboard. The company then followed up with the Typo 2 which looked nothing like BlackBerry’s design and presumably safe from further lawsuits, or at least that’s what we thought.

However according to a report from the Hollywood Reporter, it seems that BlackBerry has taken issue once again with the Typo 2 and has since filed a lawsuit against the company. According to the new lawsuit filed against Typo, BlackBerry alleges that the company “slavishly copied…down to the smallest detail, including the layout of the keyboard itself, the shapes of the keys, and the surface sculpting of the keys.”

Like we said the Typo 2 doesn’t really look like a keyboard BlackBerry would make, but apparently the company thinks that it does. The lawsuit adds, “The Typo2 Keyboard still blatantly copies BlackBerry’s iconic keyboard trade dress designs that have been embodied in numerous BlackBerry smartphones from the 2007 BlackBerry 8800 to the current Q10 and Classic models.”

As it stands, the Typo 2 is still available for purchase via the company’s website and the company has yet to comment on the lawsuit, but what do you guys think? Does the Typo 2 resemble any of BlackBerry’s phones, both past and present?
