It is very easy to miss out on tweets if you tend to check the microblogging network after every few hours. Twitter has almost always stuck with the chronological structure to display tweets that were posted while you were away but that is changing now. The company had said back in November 2014 that it would change the way these tweets are displayed. Today it has started to roll out the “While you were away” feature.
The aim here is to make the tweets that were posted while you were offline appear front and center. “Every time you open the Twitter app, you’ll see something great,” that’s how the company described the feature back in November.
This feature will recap all of the tweets that were posted during that time and place them on top of your timeline so its easier to scroll through all of them and not miss out.
Twitter hasn’t really explained how it will select the tweets that will be placed on top, though presumably it will rely upon factors like favorites and retweets to judge just how important a tweet might be to the user.
So far “While you were away” hasn’t been enabled for all Twitter users. The roll out is proceeding at a slow rate but it shouldn’t take more than a few days for this to go live for all users around the world.
