Apple’s devices tend to be big targets for thieves. There are many reasons for that. They can fetch more money in the second hand or grey markets, that’s actually one of the biggest reasons why these devices are stolen, but that doesn’t mean the thieves can always go scot free. Xinhua, China’s state owned news agency, reports that three men have been arrested as they are accused of tunneling into a Beijing warehouse and stealing iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus units worth $300,000.

Beijing police arrested the three men who were accused of digging a 2-inch hole in the wall of a warehouse owned by a Chinese logistics business. According to the report these men stole 240 iPhone 6 units.

The report further adds that one man was previously employed by the same logistics company as a driver. Money received from the devices’ sale was then used to purchase gold and cars. Police used the iPhones’ serial numbers to nab the thieves.

There’s significant demand for iPhones in mainland China’s grey markets. Just this month a man was arrested by border authorities for trying to smuggle 94 iPhones strapped to his body into mainland China. Border guards thought something was amiss when they saw that man’s “weird walking posture” when he approached the checkpoint at Futian, Shenzhen.
