The Ring Device Controls Your Phone Remotely From Your Finger
[CES 2015] Ring-based devices aren’t exactly new, and over at CES 2015 we were treated to yet another similar deviced dubbed rather aptly, The Ring. This is a device that is worn on the finger and thanks to its built-in sensors, users will be able to perform a variety of gestures on it that can execute certain commands.
For example the user could put on the ring and perform a gesture in front of their phone, after which it could either help launch a music app, send out a tweet, or even take a photo which could come in handy if you’re looking for a remote shutter-like device. Of course there are more practical ways of performing these actions, but it’s still an interesting concept.
The Ring will come with built-in gestures, although users will be able to create their own gestures and connect to social media apps such as Facebook, Evernote, and the Yo messenger app, which also means that there could be IFTTT connectivity and automation as well. It will pair with your smartphone via Bluetooth, although the company has suggested that users stay within 2 meters for optimal connectivity.
The Ring will be available in a variety of sizes including 19mm, 20.6mm, and 22.mm, so it should be able to play nicely with a bunch of different finger sizes. Pre-orders for the device are expected to go live this week where it will be priced starting at $269.99.
