You hear what sounds like a gunshot going off, what do you do? Do you assume and hope it’s just a car backfiring? A fire cracker? Or would your first instinct be to call the police? Or what if you’re not in a position to call the police? Do you hope that someone else heard and it make the call on your behalf?
Those decisions could be deadly which is why a US company by the name of Shooter Detection Systems has recently come up with a device that is able to pick up on gunshots, after which it will then be able to immediately alert the police. Given that sound and motion detectors aren’t exactly new, we guess this system’s arrival was only a matter of time.
Each detector comes in a box that is outfitted with a microphone and will also be able to differentiate between gunshots and other loud noises, so as to prevent false positives. It will also be equipped with an infrared camera that will be able to pick up on muzzle flashes, assuming that the gun was fired in the area where the detector is installed.
Dubbed the Guardian, the detector has been designed for use in schools, companies, and government buildings where upon detection, will be able to alert building and emergency personnel in less than a second.
