Price Changes Coming To EU, Canada, Iceland, Norway, Russia iTunes App Store

apple-app-store-ozIf you’re living in Canada, the European Union, Norway, Iceland, and Russia, we have some bad news for you guys. If you live in those regions and use an iOS device, prepare to see a change in app prices kicking off later this week. This is according to an email that Apple has recently started to send to developers.

According to the email sent out by Apple, “Within the next 36 hours, prices on the App Store will increase for all territories in the European Union as well as in Canada and Norway, decrease in Iceland, and change in Russia. These changes are being made to account for adjustments in value-added tax (VAT) rates and foreign exchange rates.”

We guess Iceland would be the only country to benefit from these changes. It should be noted that these price changes do not take into account Apple’s recent changes to the European iTunes App Store in which region-specific VAT rates would be applied to the app prices, meaning that not only are prices going to be increased by Apple, but the addition of VAT could make apps even more expensive, or cheaper depending on the rates.

It is unclear as to how big a change to app prices this could be, but either way we’re hoping for our friends in those regions that the price changes won’t be too big of a leap.
