Today’s younger generation might not know about Polaroid cameras, chances are they might have seen some hipster toting it around the streets of New York, but that’s about it. Camera-equipped smartphones have blown all such products out of the water which means that Polaroid has had to adapt. If it can’t sell cameras that instantly print pictures it will try selling photo printers that instantly print whatever you have captured with a smartphone or a tablet.
The Polaroid Zip mobile printer has been announced at the International Consumer Electronics Show 2015. It can be paired wirelessly with any smartphone or tablet, iOS and Android, and let users print 2×3 inch color photos from any image found on their mobile device.
Polaroid Zip is roughly the size of a smartphone weighs just .41lbs so its pretty easy to carry around. There’s just one physical control which is the power button and that too is integrated into the unit’s simple design. The printer can connect to smartphones and tablets over NFC or Bluetooth 4.0.
The iOS and Android apps, apart from allowing users to print, bring several features as well which can be used to make edits to the photos before they’re printed out. Polaroid Zip uses ZINK imaging’s ink-free Zero Ink Printing technology and promises to print 25 images on a single charge.
Polaroid Zip mobile printer is going to be available for purchase this spring, the retail price is $129.99.
