Nintendo has certainly taken their own sweet time when it comes to hopping aboard the online gaming and downloadable content bandwagon, but it seems that all of that are now bridge under the water. It seems that Nintendo has been offering its fair share of titles that will ship with unlockable content, not to mention promises of future DLCs, but today marks a milestone of sorts at the Nintendo Direct presentation when it was shared that a free-to-play title known as Pokemon Shuffle would be coming our way.
Pokemon is one of the more successful gaming franchises from the Japanese gaming giant so far, and with Pokemon Shuffle, this title happens to be a match-3 puzzle game that will make use of the super cute and popular Pokemon name and characters. You would not have to fork out a single cent to get started, although Nintendo could probably make a killing doing so, and it will end up as a free download from the 3DS eShop.
How will Nintendo make money from Pokemon Shuffle then? The answer is simple – once you are hooked, the simple human desire to gain more power kicks in – and this is where Nintendo would sell you in-game power-ups so that you can progress your way through the game. It remains to be seen whether such power-ups are the only thing for sale, and time will tell.
