The gaming console market in China has been closed off to companies for a long time. Not too long ago the country decided to ease these restrictions and allow consoles like Xbox and PlayStation to get it. Microsoft has already launched Xbox One in China while Sony’s PlayStation 4 was supposed to land in the People’s Republic this Sunday. Sony has now said that the PlayStation 4 release in China has been delayed due to “various factors.”
Even though China has eased restrictions on gaming consoles it still maintains a pretty tight grip on the titles that have to first be approved before they’re launched. It is unsurprising that PlayStation 4 has run into issues before its release in China, the kinks will have to be worked out with authorities first before Sony can begin selling its console.
The delay in release means Xbox One can maintain its position in the lucrative Chinese market unopposed. Despite all of the restrictions China happens to be the third largest gaming market in the world and Sony obviously wants a piece of the pie but it will have to be patient.
So the PlayStation 4 release in China isn’t happening this Sunday. Sony hasn’t said when its latest console will finally be allowed into China’s gaming market, it will surely work hard to make sure that this doesn’t take too long.
