The OnePlus One comes with a heavily modified version of Android developed by the folks at Cyanogen, however relations between the two companies has soured as of late. Cyanogen has an exclusive deal with India’s Micromax which means it can’t supply software for OnePlus One units in India, plus Micromax recently moved to have sales of this smartphone banned in the country. Its no surprise to see OnePlus independently develop a ROM for its smartphone which is why we now have an official OnePlus One Android 5.0 Lollipop ROM.
OnePlus put together a team of software engineers to develop this ROM and they have put out an alpha build of Android 5.0 Lollipop, the latest iteration of Google’s mobile platform. The company says this build is quite close to the vanilla Android experience, meaning that its free of bloatware and useless customizations.
A stable build of this ROM will be released in the near future and OnePlus promises to provide a customizable and bloat-free experience with “stock-Android-like simplicity.” This is something that many in the Android community crave so they’ll certainly appreciate OnePlus for it.
The company says that because this is an alpha build with limited testing you must backup your phone before flashing it and “proceed with extreme caution.” It has listed the download link for OnePlus One Android 5.0 Lollipop ROM on its official blog alongside the install instructions.
