The troubled Steve Jobs biopic has finally started filming. Over the past year we have seen several reports about the stars that could get the lead roles and when filming would begin. A few months back Sony Pictures unloaded the project to Universal which quickly wrapped up loose ends and moved into production. Universal has formally confirmed that filming has begun and it has also named the new Steve Jobs movie cast which I am sure many were anxious about.
As previously expected this biopic, penned by Aaron Sorkin and based on Walter Isaacson’s official biography of the Apple co-founder, will be set backstage at three “iconic” product launches ending with the 1998 announcement of the imac.
Michael Fassbender of X-Men: Days of Future Past fame will be playing Steve Jobs. Its his performance that will be judged most harshly by fans and critics alike, nobody wants a repeat of Ashton Kutcher’s portrayal of Jobs, so Fassbender has his work cut out for him. Seth Rogen, known for The Interview, is going to play Steve Wozniak, the second co-founder of Apple.
Former Apple CEO John Sculley will be played by Jeff Daniels. This film also touches on Jobs’ personal life and will include a performance by Katherine Waterston who plays Chrisann Brennan, the ex-girlfriend of Steve Jobs.
Danny Boyle, known for films like Slumdog Millionaire, is going to direct this film. Principal photography has now started in San Francisco. A release date hasn’t been confirmed by the studio yet.
