So, now that all of the dust surrounding the announcement of the new Nintendo 3DS XL that will hit North America later this coming February 13 has died down, not to mention the amazing speed at which The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask-themed New Nintendo 3DS XL bundle has sold out on GameStop – online as well as in brick and mortar stores, is there anything else that potential buyers need to be aware of? Yes, and it is a very important thing to take note of too, and that is, you will need to pick up an AC adapter separately. Yup, it does not come bundled with an AC adapter, which is not the norm in the industry.
Why was this particular cost cutting measure implemented? Well, a Nintendo representative did mention to Polygon, “Rather than raise cost of New Nintendo 3DS XL by charging consumers for a component they may already own, we are giving them the option to only buy if they need an AC adapter.”
He has a point – as the New 3DS XL will play nice with the very same AC adapter that is used by all 2DS, 3DS, 3DS XL, DSi and DSi XL devices, so chances are you would already have one of those in the past – so why duplicate the effort? Not to mention that our landfills would be a whole lot happier for it.
Still, if you would like to pick up an AC adapter for it, it will cost you $9.95 over at the Nintendo Store online.
