New Mario Bros. Record Set

If there is one thing that I have learned so far, it would be this – humans have the innate need to set records, simply for the fact that a sense of achievement drives us onward. Well, Steven Kleisath managed to write his name into video game folklore after investing close to half a dozen hours right in front of Mario Bros., picking up a whopping 5,424,920 points in the process. This particular effort has been deemed to be good enough for a brand new world record where Nintendo’s 1983 arcade classic is concerned.

The entire stream would stretch beyond six hours where the record breaking run is involved, and you can check it out in the source link as Kleisath broadcasted on Twitch on Monday. Of course, to achieve this amazing record does not boil down to dumb luck, but rather, serious thought needs to be taken into consideration.

It must be noted that Kleisath managed to hold on until approximately five hours and 43 minutes into his playthrough as that was when he lost his last life. In the past, Tom Votava was the holder of the previous high score of 4,678,440 points, a record that stood since 1985 until Kleisath himself beat it in July 2014 last year – which means Votava is now pushed to third place.
