A little more than a decade ago, Black Isle Studios launched the Baldur’s Gate video game series. The game quickly grew to become a classic and spawned a sequel and two expansions before they called it quits. Now Beamdog has tried to revive the game by releasing enhanced editions with updated graphics, quests, classes, characters, and items.
However if you’d rather not rehash what you’ve already played, you might pleased to learn that Beamdog has announced that they will be releasing a brand new Baldur’s Gate title. The game will be based on the Infinity Engine used in the Icewind Dale franchise which means that if you were hoping for cutting edge graphics, think again.
That being said, old school gamers and those who played the original Baldur’s Gate will be happy that the graphics that gave the game it’s charm will not be going away. As for a story, the new title will not be the sequel to Baldur’s Gate 2, but will be set in between the events of the first and second Baldur’s Gate game.
Unfortunately apart from that, not much else is known about the upcoming game. However Beamdog has stated that they will reveal more information and a release date for the new game this spring, so do check back with us then for the details.
