While smartwatches look like they could become a must-have accessory in the future, at the moment the design of most smartwatches tend to look a bit too geeky. That and the fact that they have poor battery life kind of puts many users off from buying one for themselves. This has opened up the door to companies like Kairos who recently introduced the Tband which is a strap that turns existing watches into smartwatches.
Well in case the Kairos Tband isn’t to your liking, you might be interested to learn that Montblanc is getting into the game as well. The company has recently unveiled a special watch strap that comes with a small display that will be able to display notifications as well as control your music and camera remotely, which are pretty much some of the basic features of smartwatches at the moment.
Granted it doesn’t have the ability to track your fitness, but given that the strap is attached to a luxury Montblanc watch, it seems that this is aimed more at users who are interested in wearing a luxury watch while having access to some high-tech features at the same time. Unfortunately unlike the Kairos Tband, the Montblanc strap is only available as a feature to customers who purchase the company’s watches.
This means that you have to be willing to drop anywhere between $3,000-$5,500, and pay an extra $300 for the module. We know it’s expensive but at the same time it’s an intriguing idea that could allow luxury watch makers to compete in the wearables industry, while maintaining the quality and design that they are known for.
