This is according to a post by Reddit user Redddc25 who found that his entry-level Micromax Canvas Fire phone had suddenly been loaded with apps he did not install. Given that the phone comes with a low storage base, he proceeded to uninstall them, only to find them reinstalled shortly after.
According to the folks at XDA, they discovered that this is because of a third-party OTA service that Micromax uses. Unlike Google’s OTA updates, this service that Micromax uses can apparently make it possible for apps to be downloaded and installed remotely without the user’s consent.
Micromax has yet to comment on this particular feature, but in the meantime for our readers who might own Micromax devices and don’t like the idea of having apps installed on your behalf, you can head on over to the XDA website where there are instructions on how you can disable the service, although we should point out that you will need to root your phone in order to do so.
