According to a rumor we heard yesterday, word on the street is that Nokia and Meizu could be teaming up to make a new smartphone. Under the deal that Nokia signed with Microsoft, the company is not allowed to make smartphones under the Nokia brand for now, but it does not stop Nokia from working with others to produce handsets.
This does admittedly sound like a rather interesting venture but unfortunately it looks like that will not be the case. This is according to Meizu’s Vice President of Science and Technology, Li Nan, who had recently quashed the rumors surrounding the deal. According to him, Meizu has no plans to team up with Nokia or any other manufacturer at the moment.
Now this isn’t a slight to Nokia, but rather that Meizu is currently focusing on creating and pushing out their own brand of smartphones first. As it stands, the company is still busy with its Meizu MX4 and MX4 Pro handsets, not to mention the Meizu M1 Blue Charm Note which is one of the company’s more affordable handsets.
However if anything, this rumor seems to highlight the possibilities of a Nokia partnership with other OEMs. For all we know if it isn’t Meizu, we could see the Finnish company team up with another Chinese OEM much like they did with the Foxconn-made Noka N1 tablet.
