Nintendo has always been known to be rather protective of their characters and intellectual property, especially when it comes to them making appearances in different ways and areas. However, this does not mean that Nintendo did not “release” their characters to see action in other third party console games before – take Soul Calibur for instance, but where mobile games are concerned, they still remain off limits on the whole. Time and circumstances might have changed things around now, as there are signs which point to Nintendo being more relaxed in the realm of mobile gaming. After all, as you can see in the video above, GungHo has showed off their latest title – Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition.

Needless to say, this particular title is nothing more than milking Nintendo’s cash cow for all it is worth, as it will see a popular puzzle battler title mixed with many familiar faces from Nintendo’s world. Of course, the version available so far happens to be on the Nintendo 3DS, taking Nintendo’s disdain where smartphone and tablet games are concerned, but do bear in mind that those who want to get a taste of what the Puzzle & Dragons offer can try it out on both iOS and Android platforms. Hence, the question arises – will history be made eventually as Mario makes its way onto non-3DS platforms? That remains a question that can only be answered in due time.
