Intel has hyped up its Broadwell processors many times in the past and today it has formally unveiled the 5th Generation Intel Core processor family in line with the festivities at the International Consumer Electronics Show 2015. These processors are built on the company’s 14nm manufacturing process and promise better performance, improved graphics and even greater battery life to “take computing to the next level.”
As compared to Haswell processors these chips promise a bump of 20-30 percent in battery life so the gains will certainly be noticeable and enable OEMs to put together notebooks that can last even longer on a single charge.
Intel says that these 5th generation processors have been built from the ground up for the next generation of devices like 2 in 1s, ultrabooks, notebooks, Chromebooks, All-in-One PCs and mini PCs. A thin, light and efficient experience across all devices is promised.
The company is adding 14 new chips under the Core i3, i5 and i7 lineup with new models being added to the Celeron and Pentium lines as well. This is actually the first time in Intel’s history that its adding new models to all segments of the consumer CPU models.
Since Intel has begun shipping these chips to OEMs it is only a matter of time before devices powered by it, in various form factors, are made available in the market for purchase.
