htc-re-camera-8

Last year HTC entered into the action camera market, going up against established players like GoPro. Its first generation HTC Re camera was praised by some and shunned by others. The company will continue to improve this product over the coming year in the meantime it can increase the feature set through software updates. A new software update is going to add the ability to stream video live to YouTube.

The HTC Re’s Android app is going to receive a new update on January 9th. This update is going to bring the ability to stream video live to YouTube. This feature will also be added to the iOS app but those users will have to wait for a month or so.

Once the app update arrives users simply have to sign into their YouTube account through the app and then hand out links to their public or private live stream over social media, email, etc.

Support for live streaming to YouTube has been added but the HTC Re doesn’t function as a remote camera so users will need to have it hooked up with a smartphone at all times in order to stream the footage.

The feature itself is not new. GoPro cameras are able to do this as well but the newer models are required, which tend to be expensive, and only stream video to Livestream.com. YouTube is a big plus for HTC so this feature really is a win for its action camera.
