HP has made a number of announcements at the International Consumer Electronics Show 2015 in Las Vegas but these two products stand out from the rest in its lineup. The company has shrunk the PC into very small, not to mention portable, packages which will be sold at competitive prices in the market to presumably rival the emergence of Chromeboxes. Its not like HP hasn’t dabbled in Chrome OS products itself, the company well and truly believes in diversification of its product offerings.
At one of the industry’s biggest trade shows HP has shown off two of these mini desktops, the Pavilion Mini and the Stream Mini. The former is powered by Intel Celeron or Pentium processors, but customers have the option to go with Core i-series processors as well. Pavilion Mini weighs just 1.6 pound and is about 2 inches thick. There’s a 500GB 7,200rpm hard drive inside the box coupled with 4GB RAM, two USB 3.0 ports, DisplayPort and HDMI, audio output as well as an Ethernet jack.
HP Stream Mini looks similar to the Pavilion Mini but its the cheapest of the two. It doesn’t have a hard drive instead internal storage duties are performed by a 32GB SSD which will primarily play host to the operating system, meaning that this is a great option for people who keep almost all of their stuff in the cloud. Steam Mini has an Intel Celeron processor and 2GB RAM.
The company is going to start selling both Pavilion Mini and Stream Mini in the U.S. from January 14th, prices start at $319 and $179 respectively.
