Just last week Microsoft announced the HoloLens hologram technology headset. The headset, for those who missed the announcement, is unlike other headsets like the Oculus Rift or Sony’s Project Morpheus. The HoloLens offers hologram technology and takes advantage of augmented reality to allow its wearer to interact with it and the real world at the same time.
One of the examples of how the headset could be used is in a game of Minecraft where the player sees the entire map laid out in front of them that they can interact with, but what else could the HoloLens be used for? Well according to Bill Gates during his recent Reddit AMA, it seems that we could be years away from seeing the true potential of the technology.
This means if you’re amazed by what you see now, hopefully in the next few years you will have your mind blown. According to Gates, “The HoLolens is pretty amazing. Microsoft has put a lot into the chips and the software. It is the start of virtual reality. Making the device so you don’t get dizzy or nauseous is really hard–the speed of the alignment has to be super super fast. It will take a few years of software applications being built to realize the full promise of this.”
It is definitely an exciting and interesting piece of technology, and we’re sure that just like us, you guys are excited to see what the future holds for it. In the meantime what other ways do you think the HoloLens could be used for?
