The other day we reported that Google was working on updating Google Translate for Android where it could gain delay-free translation, similar to the feature Skype has recently introduced, as well as a Word Lens feature that would allow users to translate an image with foreign text into the language of your choice.
We weren’t sure when the update would be pushed out, but the good news is that if you were looking forward to this particular feature, you will be pleased to learn that Google is now rolling out the updated Google Translate app for both iOS and Android devices. The updated app will indeed come with the Word Lens feature, and a smart conversation mode where it will be able to listen and translate to two languages at once.
Now Word Lens isn’t new. In fact back in 2014, Google acquired the company behind the app and we guess it has now been integrated into Google Translate. This will come in handy for those traveling overseas as all you’d have to do is point your camera at a sign and Word Lens will translate it for you.
At the moment the Word Lens feature will support English to and from French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish with more languages to come in the future. Conversation mode has also been updated to be more speedy now and more efficient at translating conversations. The updated Google Translate should be available in your respective app stores, but if it hasn’t appeared yet, it should soon.
