GM CTO: GM Doesn’t Mind Working With Google For Self-Driving Car Technology

General Motors, or GM for short, is reportedly willing to work alongside Google when it comes to developing the new generation of self-driving car technology, and this was disclosed by the chief technology officer of the automaker over at the Detroit Auto Show a couple of days back. GM CTO Jon Lauckner did mention that he was not in the position to make such a decision as to what the automaker is able and will not do, but he has a personal conviction that GM is “certainly open to discuss with them [referring to Google].”

It must be noted, however, that Google themselves are tipped to announce their intention in seeking out relevant partnerships to achieve such a goal. Google’s Chris Urmson, the head of the self-driving car project over at Google, is widely tipped to offer additional information concerning Google’s plans when it comes to searching for additional partners within the auto industry itself.

Self-driving cars could very well be the future, but there is still plenty of groundwork that needs to be done. Apart from that, will it take away from the joys of driving in the long run? After all, part of the pleasure of purchasing a supercar or some other high performance model is to feel the rev of the engine as and when desired at the tap of your foot.
