Garmin Epix GPS Mapping Watch Loves The Great Outdoors

[CES 2015] Garmin has just announced the Garmin epix, which is touted to be a first-of-its-kind, rugged GPS mapping watch which will target outdoor enthusiasts and folks who want a hands-free navigation experience. The Garmin epix will come with a 1.4” high-resolution color touchscreen, and on that tiny display, you can check out the preloaded worldwide shaded relief basemap, in addition to enjoying a free 1-year subscription to BirdsEye Satellite Imagery, not to mention being able to make full use of the 8GB of internal memory to help you stash in additional maps as and when required.

The Garmin epix will boast of an omni-directional EXO steel antenna with GPS and GLONASS support for a quick fix and accurate position, in addition to the now standard altimeter/barometer/compass functionality. Apart from that, you will find this GPS mapping watch to play nice with ANT+ sensors such as heart rate monitors and Tempe temperature sensor in order to accumulate even more data along the way.

Not only that, the Garmin epix will feature support for the Connect IQ store for customization and smartwatch capabilities. There is a full range of outdoor and navigation features to pick from, where you know where you have last been, as well as being able to plan for what is coming up – all from the comfort of your wrist. It will shrug off the elements thanks to a 50m water rating, and has an extended battery life with up to 24 hours in watch mode, 50 hours in UltraTrac mode and 16 weeks in watch mode.
