Firefox OS Could Appear On Wearables

Mozilla has intended their Firefox OS to be an operating system which was specially designed around similar technology found in the Firefox web browser, where it is based on open source software. The whole idea is to make it a snap for anyone to come up with third-party apps via web tools such as HTML5. In the first place, Firefox OS was strategically marketed to be an operating system for smartphones and tablets, although that has not really taken off in a big way, but still, it has made some leeway in terms of smart TVs and other TV accessories. The future, however, could see Firefox OS make the jump to wearables.

ComputerWorld claims that Mozilla is working on a way to deliver Firefox OS to smartwatches, smart glasses, and other kinds of devices which one would wear throughout the day, and judging by what we have seen at this year’s edition of CES, it is all about the Internet of Things (IoT) and to a certain extent, wearable technology – the LG Audi smartwatch prototype that runs on webOS, anyone?

After all, wearable tech is starting to grow, and with the Apple Watch being rumored for a March release, you can be sure that Mozilla has an inkling that this pie is about to get large – and hopefully, lucrative when it explodes. It remains to be seen as to when wearables with Firefox OS software will be released though.
