However Ubisoft has since come forward with a statement that basically revealed that the reason the games were deleted was because the original keys were bought via fraudulent means, such as stolen credit cards, and were then resold to gamers who thought that these keys were legit.
According to Ubisoft’s statement, “We regularly work with our authorized resellers to identify and deactivate fraudulently obtained and resold keys. In this case, we confirmed activation keys were recently purchased from EA’s Origin store using fraudulent credit card information and then resold online.” In fact it seems that EA was the one who informed Ubisoft about the issue.
At least one of the retailers, G2A, has already released their own statement and has offered to look into the issue and to offer compensation to gamers who have been affected by this. That being said we guess this should serve as a lesson to all and that perhaps purchasing games from official retailers or directly from the developer/publisher would be a safer way to go about it in the future.
