Community is a former NBC comedy that has a strong cult following. Last May it was canceled after its fifth season which left fans wondering about its future, and whether there were going to be #SixSeasonsAndAMovie. Yahoo swooped in and saved the day. It picked up the comedy and ordered a sixth season with original showrunner Dan Harmon back in the driving seat, he was fired before season 4 started. Today Yahoo finally confirmed the Community Season 6 premiere date.
The announcement came at the Television Critics Association winter press tour. A promo video has also been released to announce Community’s return. Returning cast members include Joel McHale, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, Ken Jeong, Danny Pudi and Jim Rash.
Some of the original cast members have since left, which including Chevy Chase, Donald Glover and Yvette Nicole Brown. John Oliver will not be making an appearance in season 6 and nor will Jonathan Banks of Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul fame even though he joined the cast in the last season.
Community season 6 will premiere on March 17th, 2015 with two episodes after which one new episode will be released every Tuesday, there are 13 episodes in the season.
Picking up a canceled network TV show is nothing new for companies trying to make a mark in online video streaming. Netflix revived Arrested Development, another cult favorite, and received great reviews.
