A couple of days back Google launched the Chrome Remote Desktop app for iOS. There’s good news for those who have been waiting for it to arrive on Chromebooks, which are notebooks powered by the company’s own cloud based operating system called Chrome OS. The feature is now available in Chrome OS development channel which means it is only a matter of time before its rolled out for Chromebook users everywhere.

This change was spotted by Google evangelist and developer François Beaufort in the Chromium Code Reviews. The feature doesn’t hide behind a flag that has to be enabled first anymore. Using the feature is now as simple as launching the Chrome Remote Desktop app and clicking on the Share button to get things started.

Google has certainly taken its sweet time in bringing this to Chrome OS. The feature was launched in beta back in 2012 and at that time it was only accessible through the Chrome web browser on Windows, Mac and Linux. An Android app was later released, while the iOS app came out just recently.

It may take some time before this feature moves from the development channel into the beta channel and then finally graduating to the stable channel. All Chromebooks run on the stable channel by default but its possible for users to down to beta or even the development channel, consequently the user experience is then prone to bugs and kinks down there.
