I know that we are barely a fortnight into the new year, but if you happen to be an Apple App Store developer, then you would be pleased to hear that 2014 was a bumper year – where developers managed to rake in a record $10 billion revenue that involves in-app purchases and of course, their bread and butter which would be sales of the apps themselves. Just how massive of an achievement is that? We are talking about a 50% improvement compared to the previous year, now how about that? Not only that, 2015 has also started off on the right footing, where it was reported that New Year’s Day 2015 has achieved the single largest day of sales ever seen in the Apple App Store.
For all of 2014, developers brought in record revenue of $10 billion from selling apps, and in-app purchases. There was strong demand for paid apps all over the first week of 2015, and I supposed this had to do with consumers who unwrapped new smartphones and tablets over the holiday period wanted to fill it up. In fact, the first week of 2015 alone saw App Store customers spend a whopping $500 million on apps and in-app purchases, which also happens to be a brand new record.
Eddy Cue, Apple senior vice president of Internet Software and Services, shared, “This year is off to a tremendous start after a record-breaking year for the App Store and our developer community. We’re so proud of the creativity and innovation developers bring to the apps they create for iOS users and that the developer community has now earned over $25 billion.”
