App Store Sets New Records In 2015

We’re merely a week into the new year and already the App Store has broken two records. Apple announced today that the first week of January 2015 has set a new record for App Store billings, during this week customers around the world spent over “half a billion dollars” on apps and in-app purchases. The single biggest day ever in App Store sales history was New Year’s Day 2015.

Apple also revealed that 2014 was a recording breaking year for its content store. Billings increased by as much as 50 percent and developers took away over $10 billion in app sales and in-app purchases. To date developers have earned more than $25 billion from the App Store from sale of games and applications.

In today’s press release Apple also highlighted the company and its users’ contribution for Apps for (RED), an initiative with exclusive content where proceeds went to the Global Fund to combat AIDS. Total donations exceeded $20 million this quarter.

Rising sales mean more revenue for Apple. The company gets 30 cents for every dollar spent in the App Store so one and do the math and see just how important it is to the company’s profits. Apple itself calls the App Store a “meaningful contributor” to its profits.
