That being said if you’re looking for more variety in the Windows Phone department, it seems that we can look forward to Acer making some Windows Phone announcements at MWC 2015. This is according to a report from DigiTimes in which Acer’s CEO Jason Chen confirmed that the company had plans to announce new Windows Phone hardware at MWC which kicks off in March.
Unfortunately if you were hoping to see a high-end Acer handset at MWC, you might be disappointed as Chen confirmed that there will not be any high-end devices from the company as their focus remains on the entry-level segment. Given that Windows Phone’s market share pales to iOS and Android, creating entry-level handsets probably means less risk and investment on Acer’s part.
Chen also mentioned that the company at one point in time was approached by a high-end smartphone vendor for a possible takeover of Acer’s mobile business, but apparently they declined although he does not rule out the possibility of a merger in the future.
