It goes without saying that the Video LAN Client, better known as VLC, is one of the most popular media players out there. VLC is loved by media fans not only because its open-source, also because it is available on a wide variety of platforms while supporting virtually all formats. VLC has been available on Android for over two years, though it arrived on the platform back in 2012 in beta, it has remained in beta stage since then. Today that changes, finally, as VLC for Android has now exit beta.

This means that VLC for Android has now shed the beta label and have been bumped up to its first stable release, version 1.0. Now this doesn’t mean that the app has received a plethora of new features, its nothing like that, but expect it to be a bit more stable than before.

The update to version 1.0 of VLC for Android fixes several bugs when running on a device powered by Android 5.0 Lollipop, particularly those that have ARMv8 processors. Even though Chromecast support was announced back in June it hasn’t been added to the app as yet but we expect that it should arrive in the near future.

The best part is that VLC for Android is available as a free download from the Google Play Store.
