If you wanted an app that could place VoIP calls, chances are you will probably turn to Skype or Viber (although WhatsApp’s VoIP feature is said to arrive in 2015). However in terms of user base, Skype has been around longer, not to mention they have the backing of Microsoft, so how is Viber supposed to compete?
Well it turns out that branching away from its core features could be one way to go about doing so. Viber has recently announced that they will be adding games to its platform, meaning that if you already use their app for messaging and placing calls, soon you will be able to play games via the platform as well.
As part of its launch, Viber Games will feature titles such as Candy Mania, Pop, and Wild Luck Casino, all of which were created with Viber’s partnership with developers Storm8 and Playtika. Viber Games will be expanding slowly and as it stands, it is only available in markets such as Belarus, Israel, Malaysia, and Singapore.
No word on when it will arrive stateside, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled for it anyway. In the meantime we’re not sure how Viber Games will help attract more users or make its platform more appealing, but for those who love to game on the go, perhaps this could be worth checking out.
