A fan-favorite game called Minecraft is going to receive a very special release in the coming year. Today a story mode was confirmed for this game. For this purpose Mojang, which is now owned by Microsoft, has teamed up with Telltale Games which is the studio behind popular titles like Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead. The new game is going to be aptly called Minecraft: Story Mode.
Minecraft: Story Mode is a all-new narrative-drive game series which has been developed as a result of the collaboration between Telltale Games and Mojang. The original story, which will be the main feature of this release, is going to be player-driven.
Both companies reiterated in the announcement that this won’t be available as an add-on for existing Minecraft titles. This is a standalone product which will be released at some point next year and will be available on PC, consoles and mobile devices.
New characters with “familiar themes” have been promised for Minecraft: Story Mode offering an experience described as “an entirely original Minecraft experience.”
Mojang has been busy forging partnerships lately. It is working with Hollywood honchos to make a Minecraft movie, which recently lost its director, apparently because Mojang rejected his idea of what the movie should be.
